PROFESSIONAL BULL RIDERS TO BRING BUILT FORD TOUGH SERIES TO THE NEW COLISEUM PRESENTED BY NEW YORK COMMUNITY BANK ON SEPTEMBER 23 & 24Feb 15, 2017
PUEBLO, Colo./LONG ISLAND (Feb. 15, 2017) – Following the most successful season in its history and a fast start to 2017, the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) will host its Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) at The New Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Presented By New York Community Bank on September 23 & 24, 2017.
The event will mark the first time PBR will take place on Long Island and at the Coliseum since 2005, and the world’s top 35 bull riders will compete. The venue will re-open on April 5 after closing its doors in August 2015 for an extensive renovation.
PBR has dubbed the 2017 season The Celebrate America Tour to honor heroes, inspire youth, and help unite communities. The local Long Island hero being honored will be announced at a later date. PBR is distributing 13,000 complimentary tickets for military members this season, and many veterans and active service members will be invited.
“We are committed to bringing big events to The New Coliseum Presented By NYCB, and PBR is a great example,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment. “This event further diversifies our robust programming schedule of world-class entertainment on Long Island.”
Known as “America’s Original Extreme Sport,” PBR has been growing rapidly. The once-niche sport is now popular in all corners of the country.
PBR now has 61 million U.S. fans (ESPN Sports Poll). Television viewership for PBR on CBS Sports increased 12 percent last year, according to Nielsen, with PBR TV ratings second only to the NFL on several weekend days in 2016. Over the past five years, PBR on CBS viewership has grown 39 percent.
The league set 13 local attendance records in 2016, while also achieving significant growth in social media. Across major sports properties, PBR was No. 1 in fan engagement on Facebook last year, and it had the highest engagement rate on Twitter and highest growth rate on Instagram, according to CrowdTangle.
“With its tough-as-nails cowboys squaring off against fearsome bulls ten times their size in epic 8-second bursts of mayhem all night long, the PBR is the right sport for America right now,” said Sean Gleason, CEO of Professional Bull Riders. “PBR fans in the northeast have been asking for a fall event, and we’re thrilled to come back to Long Island and this great building to entertain the passionate fans here like only the PBR can.”
A ticket on-sale date will be announced soon.
